Catchy title right? This is your one warning, this is going to be a bit of a rant, some of the things I say in this post you might not agree with but I need to get this off my chest. Again, that’s your one warning.
Last night I got into a pretty heated debate because I was actively rooting for a team to lose where a player had been sited publicly using the phrase “Raping the opposing team like the little bitches they were.” My rooting wasn’t based on the team being bad at what they do, I just simply did not want him to win. While this was the main starting point, it sort of snowballed from there into a bigger discussion about gamer culture.
So this was the last thing I painted, and since I just did a whole Avengers lineup, I figured I should do a JLA lineup, but I’m going to let you guys vote on which one I paint up next so here’s the poll. You can pick TWO choices from the list. Please to be voting, me love you long time.
I’m a huge geek, shocking I know. Me a pillar of popularity, poise and culture. But yes, I’m a huge geek, and a large part of that goes back to pen and paper RPGs. I actually owe quite a bit to the RPGs, in fact a ton to none other than Dungeons and Dragons, my gateway drug.
There’s always a ton of pop culture references wherever you go. It’s part of what makes them what they are. WoW has been one that has made light of them in many different ways over the years, most recently was one discovered in the MoP beta. This is my feelings on that discovery.
This is another personal post, it’s as much an exercise in catharsis as it is anything else.
I am not a Hobbit. Though there were times growing up that I was compared to one by other geeky kids. No, I’ve been filled with a love of Tolkein since I was but a wee lad . What spawned this post was seeing the trailer for the Hobbit movie in theatres for the first time this weekend. There was the big scene that they showed in it inside Bilbbo’s house where Thorin and the party sing The Dwarven Song About Old Wealth. I’m sure that those of you that are fantasy geek fans and Tolkein fans had a chill hearing music set to the 27 stanza poem many of us have committed to memory. For me though it stirred up a set of emotions that I thought I had long since moved past, or laid to rest.
For many, many weeks I’ve been hunting for the shield off Blackhorn. I have decided, after a small psychosis that the shield is a dirty, dirty lie and that if you have the normal or heroic version of it, it’s only because you hacked the game because clearly it is unobtainable otherwise. Sadly though, the following images are not far off from the truth of what has happened.
People have been asking about this since I sent the recipe to McCurly today and mentioned it on twitter. Here’s my home made recipe for my BBQ sauce. It’s a bit thicker than some of the others but it’s got a sweet heat and spice to it, and is great for making BBQ items on the grill, in a crock pot or for dipping.
1 cup Jack Daniel’s Honey Whiskey
1 cup tomato paste
½ cup dark brown sugar
¼ cup vinegar (non malted, not apple just the regular stuff)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup Franks Redhot Sauce
salt and pepper to taste
Combine and simmer over medium heat for about 20 minutes stirring often until a BBQ sauce like consistency, then set to cool. makes about 3 cups.
